It’s not a silly question! The pin he wears is an NYPD ‘Detective Bureau’ pin. It’s the gold pin with a ‘DB’ in blue and green lettering on a dark background. They’re not common, and only a very small number of detectives get them as they’re personally awarded to and handed out by the Chief of Detectives.
